Hydrangea Spotting on Nantucket

As you know, there are countless reasons why I love Nantucket. Many of Nantucket’s residents, both past and present, share my love of hydrangeas.

This whale by Sunny Wood is downtown by the Haul Over, near Stop & Shop.

Thanks to social media, if you are in New England and have some flexibility in your schedule, you can plan a trip to time peak hydrangea viewing – even if it is just for the day.

I headed over on a perfect Thursday last month for the day to see some of my favorite spots and a few of my favorite people. This trip was just for the flowers, and, with the exception of a few stores that I popped into, this was not a shopping trip.

First stop: Sconset

When my friend Jane offered me a ride to Sconset so that I did not need to take the Wave and be on a little bus with people I don’t know, it was a no brainer! We stopped at Roasted for a rose matcha latte and headed out.

For those of you who do not know, Sconset is about a half hour ride out of town. The drive is fascinating, and Sconset is my favorite place to visit in the summer.

The plan was an early lunch from Claudette’s, but they were out of their seafood salad for my favorite sandwich, so we scrapped it and upgraded to the Chanticleer, which is becoming an around-my-birthday lunch tradition. The garden in the courtyard is amazing!

After lunch, Jane was off to meetings, so I did a shortened solo Bluff walk to see some landscaping in bloom.

I headed to the beach to meet up with Kim Thomas of Shorelines Illustrated and New England Coastal Creative. (No photos, phone died). I saw friends Mer Hanson and Sara Rossi of Beau & Ro for a quick hello before they left the beach, and then Kim and her family generously let me pile into their car for some more flower touring.

Second Stop: Steps Beach

After a bunch of photo opps, we headed back into town, dropped off her family, and headed out to Steps beach for photos there. We did not have time to go down to Steps, but we did get some shots of the sweeping views.

THE HYDRANGEA DRIVEWAY is right next to steps. It is private, so if you visit, please be respectful!

Stop Three: Old North Wharf.

Home to the adorable Lydia Cottage and many other gems, Old North Wharf is a prime photo spot!

Most of the shops has closed by the time I got back to town. I was lucky enough to make it to Remy before she closed. Hydrangeas outside on Old South Wharf and tons of stripes and beach vibes inside!

Remy is a charming boutique on Old South Wharf..

I headed back on the 6:05. What a great day!

There are many other gorgeous spots to see hydrangeas on the island, and this is by no means a comprehensive guide. Some of the most beautiful sights are private or outside of town, and it is impossible to see everything in a day!

I hope that you enjoyed this! Please leave a comment if you do!
