I follow a ton of foodie accounts on Instagram, and I believe that was where I first saw a post on The Hourly.
The Hourly is an oyster house, but it has plenty of other offerings.
Nestled on Dunster Street, smack in Harvard Square, next to a (random) Mike’s Pastry outpost. Wow, Harvard Square, you’ve changed!! No more ABP, no more Sandrines, no more Elsie’s (home of the delicious mushroom sub). Does anyone remember Harvard Square mid 90’s?
I could go on, but I digress.
The Hourly has a charming, welcoming sign outside.Inside, it’s bright and spacious. My oyster-loving friend and I got a cozy booth, and enjoyed a sweet, delicious draft cider called Downeast Oyster House Cider that was the color of orange juice!
Obviously, we ordered a dozen oysters, and I got to pick! Among what we had were Kusshi, Beaupoint and John’s Creek. Everything was nicely shucked, and the white balsamic vinaigrette really brought out the flavor of the oysters.
I AGONIZED for over a half hour about whether to order the whole roasted Branzino with saffron rice or the Lobster Pie. I had seen a picture of the lobster pie on Instagram, and I decided that I wanted to experience it. You can see why!
Puff pastry crust with a lobster cut out and mini lobster puff pastry garnishes.
I cracked into the perfect crust, and I was overjoyed at the deliciousness inside.
My iPhone does not do this dish justice. But, on a cold night, it was perfect, and I wanted to dive into it. So many delicious flavors!
My friend ordered the crab cake appetizer, which came on top of a bed of mushrooms (yea!) and beets (eww)!
Upon tasting the mushrooms, I ordered a side of them. Anyone who has dined with me knows that I rarely miss an opportunity to order a side of mushrooms.
Between the half a cider, oysters, lobster pie and mushrooms, there was no room for dessert. Chocolate mousse and the green apple crumble were tempting.
But, I will be coming back for more oysters, that bronzino and possibly dessert. Who’s with me?!
