Fall started officially by the end of the third week of September, so a couple of friends and I made plans to go apple picking. There were also pears and peaches available – for their final weekend!
Due to its proximity to pretty much everyone, we decided to meet at Belkin Lookout Farm in Natick. It is very family friendly- they have a train that take you around the farm where you can pick different fruit at several stops, including a kids play area. And for adults, there is a cider/beer house with house-made cider.
When driving in, you see pumpkins on the outskirts of the property.First stop was peaches, which I insisted on. They were a little past ripe, so I had to eat one on the spot!We also picked Macintosh, Gala (which were teeny), Courtland and Golden Delicious. Perfect for pie making! Pears were scarce, but I managed to grab a few – and they were delicious! There is grapes growing everywhere in the awnings. I do not normally like grapes, but these are sweet and delicious.Pumpkin picking would be saved for another, cooler day.I’ll be back for pumpkin cider and more apples!xxoo, PF
