Brunch for Dinner at Del Frisco’s

I don’t know about you, but I have always thought of Del Frisco’s as a steak and overall decadent dinner destination. When I am debating where to go with a friend or group of friends for brunch, it never comes up.This past Thursday, everything changed for me when I was lucky enough to be included in a group of bloggers who attended a VIP preview of Del Frisco’s new spring menu and new Westwood restaurant. The restaurant is so beautiful and such a great open space. You have to walk by the kitchen to get to the restrooms, so you really see what is going on!First round was Nonna’s cinnamon rolls, a smoked salmon tower and a Bloody Mary with house made horseradish-infused vodka.Next was the greens and grains bowl and the Honeymoon in Paris drink. This was by far the biggest winner drink of the night for me, and I can see me meeting some girlfriends for this one, especially in warmer weather! The greens and grains bowl was also refreshing, and I loved the cranberries in it.The third “course” was lemon ricotta pancakes with lemon curd, blueberry compote, blueberry maple syrup and, for a little something extra, lemon pound cake bits.  You’d think that it would be heavy and a knockout, but the pancakes were light and fluffy.  I wish that I could make them this good, but it’s probably better for me that I cannot! The accompanying drink, Crack Coffee, was a hit with the coffee drinkers (which I am not).  It’s got all kinds of delicious things in it, and it’s one of their signature drinks.  I did eat all of the cinnamon whip off of my little shot! The final brunch round consisted of Eggs in Purgatory and Braised Short Rib Hash.  The Eggs in Purgatory is similar to Shakshuka, but with a kick and accompanied by a gluten free (!) avocado flatbread and some arugula.  I am so happy that this came towards the end when many of my neighbors had hit a wall, as I got to eat basically one by myself!I don’t eat meat, but I was told that the braised short rib hash was delicious. The drink with this round was a Spanish Gin and Ton with Apple Cardamon Shrub.  I skipped it, as I cannot stand gin, but the report was that is was an exceptionally delicious version of gin and tonic.Del Frisco’s chef Shawn did not want us to miss out on some of the wonderful dinner options, so he prepared a dinner course of pan-seared scallops, baby zucchini parmesan, filet mignon and charred honey tahini broccoli.  The scallops, accompanied by a polenta and paired with chianti, were a hit with me.  I don’t think of pairing a chianti with scallops, but it was lovely.  My meat eating dining partners told me that the steak was cooked absolutely perfect, and there was next to nothing left.

The baby zucchini parmesan was delicious and also almost all consumed by me!  I buy baby zucchini every time I visit Trader Joe’s, but mine never tastes like this!!

The finale was a beautiful coconut cream pie and the cutest drink of the night, a pistachio fizz, with Nolet’s, Monin Pistachio, cream, pasteurized egg white, club soda and lemon.  The presentation was adorable, and I loved this drink. We rolled out of Del Frisco’s with full bellys, smiles and goody bags with wine openers and caramel!  We also got goody bags from University Station.

Thank you so much to Del Frisco’s for making us truly feel like VIPs and to Goodwin PR for having us.
