My first Nantucket Daffy Fest!

Through the glamorous world of Instagram and through my obsession with Nantucket, I became aware of a long standing annual tradition, Daffodil Festival.  Daffy Fest occurs the last weekend in April, and islanders and visitors get decked out in yellow duds and yellow daffodils- crowns, pins, hats, garlands!

I reached out to a friend who has family on the island, as I do every time I visit Nantucket, to see if she was game to go for the day.  The stars aligned, and we met up at Hy-Line to take the high speed over.

Amazingly, after cruising through fog for the majority of the short trip, the sun burst through the clouds a few miles before we reached the island.  Hooray!  No matter what time of year it is, I never get tired of rounding the corner and seeing Brandt Point lighthouse.

I couldn’t stop smiling being back in the island.  So many flowers everywhere.  And sun!  It warmed up into the 60’s at one point, which was a delight, considering that I had brought a raincoat and an umbrella and was prepared for a monsoon!

We headed up Main to the center of town where the antique cars were displayed and many people were assembled for the parade.  We did a good bit of browsing, and I hit up Lemon Press for a non sweetened almond milk tumeric chai latte!  I also bought some goodies from a vegan bake sale with proceeds going to a humane society and met Ally from Wopatuck and got one of her headbands – 100% went to the Sailing Stork fund!Although it wasn’t a shopping trip, I had to pick these up at Toujours Midi.  Preppy and French is irresistible!  Mr. Homard!!!!We watched the parade head out Sconset, for what looked like an epic picnic.  Next year, we vowed to participate in the tailgate picnic!

We weren’t prepped for a picnic, so we headed to relative newcomer Greydon House for brunch.  We were seated a a super comfy table in the bar area, which was perfect for a recharge.  I ordered oysters and egg whites with salmon and arugula.  The girls ordered a unique clam chowder with peas and mussels and roasted chicken and greens salads.  My only complaint was that the portion of salmon surrounding the eggs was super stingy.  It was only $14, but come on!  The salads were huge! After brunch, we headed to Amy’s parents’ house to say hello and pick up a car to head out to Sankaty Lighthouse, which was a Daffy Fest must-do for me.

We headed back to get Amy’s dog and get in line for the ferry.  I snapped a few shots while Amy got us a place (she couldn’t browse in shops with the dog). And, just like that, it was time to head back.  So sad to see this in the rear view.I stopped at Spanky’s for my first lobster salad of the year, which I got to go and had for dinner with the bf.What a great day!  I can’t wait to go bACK.
