Pacific Seafood expo visit

I cannot believe that I never knew that there was an annual seafood expo in Boston! And it’s huge!

Luckily, there was a post on the Boston Bloggers Facebook group extending an opportunity to attend an event by Pacific Seafood.

From their website, I learned that sustainability, community and self governance are their key principles. The website is also a fantastic source of information on the each of the species that they offer. I particularly enjoyed reading about oysters!

Held in a room at the Westin, we were greeted by Lacy, their friendly and knowledgeable Communications Manager, who offered jars of Pacific Seafood’s own tartar sauce and cocktail sauce, along with a Pacific Seafood etched wine glass (or two)!

We got to try several seafood delicacies.

The seared rockfish tasted so fresh, and it was prepared simply, which I prefer. I am a purist.I enjoyed the Steelhead in the Steelhead tacos. I can’t remember having eaten Steelhead before, but I liked the consistency and the taste wasn’t too fishy.I admittedly didn’t try the fried Haddock, which was supposedly gluten free (they make a ton of gluten free options), but it looked great, and it was completely cleared outlet by the end.One of my favorites was the Dungeness crab. It was served in a little shot glass with Pacific Seafood Company’s cocktail sauce. Dan from Pacific Seafood explained to me that it’s the third joint of the leg that it is best part.

There was also a shrimp ceviche- that one was a miss for me- not a lot of flavor for ceviche and kind of watery. There were two types of Pacific oysters that Dennis was shucking, Kumamoto (served just about everywhere that West Coast oysters are served), and a new one for me, Bruce’s Beach House. Dennis told me where they are grown and all about how they are formed and their life cycles. Fascinating! There were two mignonettes made to try them with – a strawberry and a cucumber. And, I learned how to shuck. That was overdue! Woohoo!![wpvideo 1DT0U1IY ]

Thank you to everyone at Pacific Seafood for hosting me and some of my fellow bloggers. Don’t forget to check out their recipe section!Xxoo, PF
