It was almost 60 on the South Shore on Sunday, plus sunny! I picked a perfect day to head to the Cape! I had promised to take pictures of my family’s little cottage to put on our rental site.
I have been coming to the Cape since childhood, and although Hyannis has gotten a bad rap due to drug problems (which existed over 20 years ago when I lifeguarded in the summer), it will always be a second home to me.I took a few pictures of the house, made some notes, and walked down to the beach, because I am two houses from the beach- so how can I not?!After some housekeeping, it was off to town.
It was pretty busy on Main Street, but there was some very sad news to report for those who know Hyannis: Ye Olde Fudge Shoppe, staple of the Kennedys, celebrities and the Fogelsons (that’s us) is closed FOREVER.Also closed were Beach House Designs, where many a nautical purchase was made (Mom’s heart breaks) and The Broken Cone, which means no Del’s (Dad’s heart breaks) and no Four Seas on Main Street (inconvenient). My boyfriend thankfully remembered a tapas and Italian combo place, Tumi, that we had really wanted to try this summer. I don’t get to try a lot of new places when my family is here because they have their old standbys. It was bright and airy inside, and the menu was great and very affordable ($17 for 1/2 a wood grilled lobster over risotto. Ceviche was half price until 5. Score!
They had a 4 course prix fixe menu for $30, which included a glass of house Chardonnay or Pinot Noir or a beer and dessert. My bf ordered grilled scallop ceviche, Proscuitto wrapped asparagus, seafood paella (guess they don’t use saffron in Peru) and tiramisu. I ate the two ceviches pictured- oyster and shrimp and ordered a fabulous spinach salad with roasted shiitake mushrooms, artichokes, cranberries and white balsalmic with wood grilled shrimp. The paella left a little to be desired, but everything else was delicious!!
We couldn’t even finish everything. But we’ll be back. Love the Cape!
