I am visiting my parents in Richmond this weekend, and so is my sister and her husband.
To celebrate my Dad’s birthday, we headed to Chez Max, a delightful French restaurant in a random little spot. How cute is the entryway? Our table was right in front of the fireplace. So cozy!
There were plenty of great choices for everyone on the menu. Everything was so fresh! My mom ordered the escargot friscasse as an appetizer. It came in a puff pastry with a warm sprig of rosemary.Of course she shared. Lots of garlicky goodness!I ordered the seafood crepe special appetizer. They were small, but packed a delicious seafood punch. The sauce was similar to a bisque. We all went for fish for dinner. Three of us got this haddock special with a saffron beurre blanc sauce. The saffron was amazing! It was served over basil mashed potatoes.Mom and my brother in law both got Parmesan crusted Rockfish with chive butter. Both fishes were prepared perfectly. For dessert, we split two dishes.A Tarte Veille Francaise with apples and peaches and almond butter, topped with ice cream and a thin cookie butterfly was a plate-scraping hit.The chocolate soufflé sounded great to the chocolate lovers, but it was an eggy, not nearly chocolatey enough fail.Everyone enjoyed the meal and the company throroughly. Happy belated birthday, Dad!
Two French meals in a week = one happy Francophile.
