Battling the Mean Reds and Finding Your Tiffany’s

Do you have a list of go-to happy movies?  Ones that you watch to cheer up or just to make you happy because you enjoy watching them so much?

Mine include Desperately Seeking Susan, Pretty in Pink, Shag, Pride and Prejudice, Amelie and, of course, Breakfast at Tiffany’s!

Forget the offensive portrayal of Mr. Yunioshi by Mickey Rooney (which, it turns out, he was absolutely devastated about it being considered so offensive).  And how I start hyperventilating when  she dumps the cat out of the taxi in the rain.  I love this movie and it’s extravagances.

Do you remember when Holly Golightly talks about the “mean reds?”   Well, the beginning of January has brought the mean reds on big time for me.

I won’t go into detail about how I got there, but I will say that the new years resolution review and the bitter cold helped greatly in contributing to my crankiness.

I had a great chat with my friend who got me connected with the weight loss program that I have been on for 10 months, and she gave me a refreshing perspective.  She’s a married mom of three, and she has wanderlust too.  Her advice: just do it!  Fuck waiting!

As for my Tiffany’s, it’s  Naples, it’s Nantucket, it’s my little slice of beach with my family in Hyannis in the summer and it is always France.

I am headed to Naples in about 2 weeks, and I am trying to work out Paris/France later in the spring/summer.I haven’t totally snapped out of the mean reds, but my advice to myself and to everyone else is to not be so hard on yourself.  Be grateful for what you have.   I have a lot to be thankful for, and I need to focus on that.

Happy almost Friday!
