Friday Finds – Black Businesses To Shop, Volume 1

I have spent the last week plus listerning, reading, learning and contemplating how I can better support black people as an influencer and as a person.

I will be posting more about both black influencers who I have followed and who I have been introduced to through people who I already follow. I will also be posting more resources on getting involved as an ally and an advocate. Both of these require much more research than I have done, and I do not want to hastily post anything on my blog or on my feed until I have done more research.

One thing that I am most proud of with Preppy Francophile has been my ability to introduce my friends and my followers to new businesses. I admit that almost all of the businesses that I supported and promoted on PF until now have been white businesses. I will be diversifying my business list immediately, and I hope that I influence some people to do so as well.

Here are a few black owned businesses that I have discovered, some of which are long time loves of mine and some of which I have discovered through other influencers.

Estelle Colored Glass: I have seen these glasses and cake stands on so many feeds lately, and with good reason- they are simply gorgeous! Based in Charleston, Estelle is named after Stephanie Hall’s grandmother, who loved antiquing and finding beautiful colored glasses to her collection for Sunday dinners.

The Tiny Tassel: This adorable brand is not new to me! I have loved Mimi’s tassel earrings and the fun clothes that her mom makes for the brand for years. She is also based in Charleston and is a co-owner of the Cannonborough Collective, a shop that supports local creators.

Supple Sirens: I found these ladies at the sustainable market on Nantucket last summer, and I am so glad that I did! Their soaps and body butters smell delicious incredible. Bianca and Shantaw have been best friends for 14 years, and this is their second official year of business. Their products are all natural, and they are donating 10% of their online sales to the Okra Project, which brings fresh meals to black trans people.

Golde: A new-to-me company that I keep hearing about, Golde is Brooklyn based, and they make health and beauty products containing superfood. Trinity and Issey founded Golde in 2017 with the goal of bringing good vibes to the wellness industry. My pick is the Cacao Tumeric Latte blend, which is vegan and sugar free.

Briogeo: Briogeo is a New York City based company founded by Nancy Twine. They make hair products for everyone, and they are clean and cruelty free. I love the company is a nod to the diversity of New York City. On my list, this Don’t Dispair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask .

Madame de la Maison: Ajiri Aki’s has a stunning curated online shop of vintage tabletop finds, and how could a francophile like me not be following her? Her feed is absolutely dreamy, and she believes that gathering at the table brings joy. You can buy or rent antiques from her.

Hope For Flowers: I found this sustainable Tracy Reese company through Julia of Girl Meets Glam. Not only is everything bright and beautiful, but the company is all about treating people and the earth better. I love this dress.

La Tuile a Loup: While I cannot find out the back information about the company because they do not appear to have a website, I want everything that they make. I found them through Willaheart artist Alyssa Harris, and I want to go to the shop in Paris right now. Their feed!!
